Geothermal Park and Hot river trail
The geothermal town Hveragerði is an ideal base to explore the South of Iceland
Inni - Boutique apartments are situated in the town Hveragerði, only a 45 km drive from the city of Reykjavík. Hveragerði is an ideal base for exploring both the city of Reykjavík and all the great sights in the South of Iceland like the Golden circle, the South shore waterfalls and Black beaches. The town is known for the Geothermal Park, its many greenhouses and the Reykjadalur hot river.
Hiking and exploring. There are plenty of hiking options in and around the town, and at the apartment you will find a map with walking routes in the area.
Reykjadalur - Hot river trail is the most popular hike in the area. It is about an one-hour walk (3 km uphill) to the valley, where you can bathe in a hot spring river and relax after the quite steep walk. From Inni apartments is only around 3 km drive to the trail-head.
Geothermal Park. In the middle of the town there is geothermal area that is securely fenced off, but it is open for visitors all year round. Don't miss the chance of tasting a fresh steam baked rye-bread and boiling eggs in a hot spring. (You can buy eggs at the place.)
Earthquake simulator. At the Tourist Information Center (few steps from the Geothermal park), you can step into a simulator and experience an earthquake on the same scale as the one that hit the town in 2008 (6.3 Richter). In that same earthquake a new hot spring area broke through the ground. It is situated on the hillside above the town where you can also walk around.
Restaurants and services. Besides the hot springs, the town has much to offer for tourists. You will find one of the oldest geothermal outdoor swimming pool in Iceland, with hot tubs, whirlpools and a natural steam bath. Several restaurants and a food-hall are in the town, bakery, supermarket, pharmacy and a wine-store.
